Inspirational Infusion

#20 — November 1, 2010

In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out.
It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being.
We should all be thankful for those people who
rekindle the inner spirit.

Welcome, Inspired Traveler!

This is the month of giving thanks. This is the month of acknowledging the gifts, talents and treasures that we have been afforded, and offering words, remembrances and presents as tokens of our appreciation. This is the month that begins the holiday season for many people of many paths. This is the month that exhaustion sets in! At this time of year, I become incredibly thankful for those rare opportunities to breathe! Don’t you?

As leaders, the end of the calendar year presents us with a limited amount of time left to accomplish all of the goals that we have set for ourselves and for those we lead. But, in the hustle and bustle of the moment, in between the budgets and the performance reviews, in between deadlines for projects at the office and at home, in between play rehearsals, football games and festive entertaining comes the sacred space of thanks giving. The time for us to settle, if just for a moment and offer thanks to those who have supported, followed, listened and taken on more work to help us succeed at this leadership thing.

For those people in every part of our lives, and especially for those who have taken the time and used their gifts to reignite our spark, regenerate our creativity and renew our sense of passion and spirit, let’s make this a month of thankfulness. So, to get you started on ideas to give thanks:

  • Have an afternoon tea with supportive friends
  • Give a colleague a break on a Friday afternoon
  • Bring in some pumpkin pies for your staff

And, as always, remember those who have had a tough year; those who are too tired, too overwhelmed and too depleted to see the gifts in their lives. Resist the temptation to preach; simply offer in kindness:

  • A visit to one who is lonely
  • A basket of goodies to remind one that there is sweetness in the world
  • A thoughtful card with words crafted in compassion

Giving thanks once ignites two spirits — that of the receiver and that of the giver. Be generous. Be filled with gratitude. Be abundant.

I wish you blessings during this month, and always, as you work toward making a difference in this world for all those you lead and provide a service to. And I wish you refreshment and renewal for your spirit and your life. I am thankful for your leadership, your talents and your connection to InspirationInProgress.

Be Magnificent! Have an Inspirational Day!
