What is important is to keep learning, to enjoy challenge,
and to tolerate ambiguity.

— Martina Horner

Welcome, Inspired Traveler!

There are just some times in this life when it is easier to be open to change and growth than others. I suppose that is part of the mysterious cycle in which we work and live. And, there are other times when we slip into a state of relaxation — always necessary for growth. But this month, I suggest, can serve both cycles — that of relaxation and that of expansion.

As a leader, how are you challenging yourself? How are you different today than you were a year ago? And, are you providing opportunities for learning to those you serve? Taking up the challenges of continued learning is part of the leadership process; it is also part of developing others who put their careers, at some level, in your hands. Do you take up the challenge or slip into the background?

Nurturing professional development is often easier in the summer months when the pace is somewhat slower and we are surrounded by growth each time we look out the window or go for a walk at lunchtime. Nature does growth so well. Nature tolerates. Nature gives. Nature adapts. Do you?

How would your team members describe your growth patterns:

Provides challenges?
Listens to others?
Delights and learns from ambiguity?
Focuses on what can be heard rather than on what “must” be said?

Taking up challenges, listening to the other voice and holding the tension of two opposing thoughts are all qualities that inspire growth, welcome innovation, and invite others into the circle of change.

So, this month, make a new circle. Listen to a new voice. Be open to inspiration. Then, relax as the life sprouts around and through you!
