If you can dream it, you can do it.

Greetings, Inspired Travelers!

Leaders know that team building is not an easy undertaking. And building a creative team is even more challenging. But, spring is upon us and creativity, like the new buds on the flowering plants, is coming to life and filling the landscapes with beauty and renewal. Wouldn’t it be great if your team could do the same to your business world? Well, here are some steps to help you nurture the sprouts among you:

Pay Attention! As the leader, you must pay attention to the team members as individuals and as creators of the team dynamic. Who is always in charge? Who is withdrawing in the middle of meetings? The leader must create a safe space for people to share creative ideas and alternative points of view. The safer the space, the more creativity flows.
Reduce Fear! When people are afraid of making mistakes, being ridiculed or rejected, the creative juices stop flowing. The priority becomes about not being embarrassed rather than creating something innovative and beneficial.
Be Open and Honest! Transparency is necessary in the creation of innovative teams for many reasons. Employees like to know how their ideas are going to be used and how they will contribute to the greater good. Leaders need to involve the teams in the whole process - not simply when it is convenient.
Lead with Creativity! If you want others to be creative, model that behavior. You’re not creative, you say? Put that thought aside! We all have gifts to be used and the creative process is an open one. Set aside judgment. Ask thoughtful questions. Respect the creative process and thank people for their contributions. This is about the process as much as it is about a result.
Stretch Your Self! If we want others to stretch their creative muscles, we must stretch our own. Again, leaders must model the behaviors and commitments they seek from their team members. The ability to influence, take risks, explore new options and be empathetic are all necessary components in building a successful and creative team.

Spring is here. The markets are changing as are your customers. Meet their needs - and the needs of your staff - through creative, exciting and dynamic offerings. You’ll have a team that is energized and a customer base that is loyal. And that’s good for everyone in every season!

Be magnificent! Have an Inspirational Day!
